X-Pulse Remote Disconnect System

X-Pulse System Controller (XPSC)

Each X-Pulse unit in the field is controlled by XPSC.The system is accessed from a computer workstation at the utility 's facility.

The XPSC is a web hosted service that supports multiple simultaneous users. The system is hosted at a remote high security data center and employs Secure Sockets Layer (SSL certificate -as used by on-line banks) technology to protect data submitted over the Internet.

Once logged on to the system the user will have access to the customer database that holds the details of all the field units including their location and switch status.

An instruction can be sent to the X-Pulse unit using the software 's command wizards which guide the user through the whole process.

Once a command has been initiated by the user, the software generates the appropriate encoded message and sends it to the communications network over the Internet using a high level communications protocol. The message is then transmitted over the network to the X-Pulse field device for decoding and action.

X-Pulse Hosted Service Benefits Summary

  • Requires little or no resource to implement
  • No maintenance or software support issues
  • Implementation takes days rather than months
  • No system conflicts with other programs running within the utility
  • No complex integration with the utility 's legacy system
  • Accessible to multiple, simultaneous users
X-Pulse Communications Network

X-Pulse can be configured as a self-contained remote disconnect system or can be integrated into an AMR system. If required, the system architecture allows a utility to migrate from a stand alone system to one that integrates into an AMR system. Wireless communications options include commercial paging, satellite and RF.

The system has been designed as a reliable, secure communications medium.
The message code includes forward error correction, with a checksum incorporated
in the message structure that makes it impossible for incorrect characters to be
decoded. As such, any invalid message will be ignored by the X-Pulse field device.

Paging option
The X-Pulse Paging receiver is a one-way communications device that uses existing
commercial paging networks operating with the FLEX® or POCSAG protocols.
With options for both VHF and UHF the system is suitable for deployment on most of the paging systems across North America
.

X-Pulse Field Device

The disconnect device mounts between the customer's meter and the meter socket. No tools are needed for its installation and, once inserted, there are no other connections to be made.

Local reset/arming
Following a disconnection, there are a number of options that can be programmed into the X-Pulse unit for resetting the disconnect relay. Reconnection can be achieved with no customer intervention by sending a reset command or the unit
can be 'armed' remotely with the final reset being achieved by the customer
pressing a 'push button' located on the meter collar.

PowerPulseTM - latching relays
The X-Pulse system uses BLP's PowerPulse S36 latching relay for the final disconnect. The device is pulse operated ensuring that the system maintains
its status during power interruptions. PowerPulse incorporates BLP's patented 'blow-on 'technology which delivers unrivalled fault current performance up
to 12000Amps.The S36 is rated and fully tested for over 6000 operations at full load (200Amps)and its safety performance has been independently verified.
Reliability and quality of the product has been proven with over 2.5 million units currently in service.

Hardware Features Summary

  • Fast 'Plug and play' installation
  • System can be installed and running in a few hours
  • Suitable for 4 and 5 Jaw meter installations
  • Fits ring or ringless meter installations
  • Extended temperature range (-40 to 85 °C)
  • Customer reset option
