BLP has been awarded the highest honour for a supplier to the Ford Motor Company, it is now recognised as a Q1 supplier by this international group of car companies.
Jaguar Cars, the British luxury car maker and a member of the Ford's Premier Automotive Group, is a long term customer and will be presenting BLP's Newmarket manufacturing plant with the Q1 plaque and flag this summer.
To be awarded Q1 supplier status BLP had to achieve several prerequisites including:
Quality Standard 9000. For overall high standards throughout its Newmarket manufacturing facility. Quality Operating System. BLP has been using QOS for monitoring and controlling continuous improvement for over two years.
Supplier Improvement Metrics. Ford requires fewer than 1,000 defective parts per million. BLP's defect rates have been averaging fewer than 300 parts per million for the last 12 months. Press Release
MS9000. A materials management, handling and logistics system. BLP scored 116 points out of a maximum 150 and well above Ford's 80 point requirement.
Good delivery performance. BLP has had 100 per cent on time delivery for automotive products for 12 months.
New product submissions by agreed dates. Again BLP has always been on time.
A number of customer endorsements from departments from within Ford. BLP has been endorsed by Jaguar's purchasing, supplier technical assistance and quality departments.
Jaguar Cars are the original customer for BLP's PowermotiveTM product, which protects the car's battery from loss of power whilst the car is in transit. Jaguar's business with BLP has been established over 10 years.
As a result of the successful supply of over a million of these innovative products, BLP now sells to many vehicle manufacturers, including MG Rover, Land Rover and Autoliv France, which supplies Renault.
Jaguar's letter to BLP states: We are pleased to inform you that your Newmarket location is now recognised as a Q1 supplier. Selection for receipt of Q1 status is based on the exemplary delivery and quality performance of your facility.
Jaguar asked BLP to extend our congratulations and appreciation to all associates who have worked hard to achieve Q1. BLP's Quality Engineer, Tony Self, said: This is great news and provides the continued challenge of excellence through continuous improvement.
Rob Genders Rob Genders, BLP's Automotive Market Development Manager, said: This tremendous achievement by the BLP team endorses BLP's automotive business as a recognised Tier 1 and a preferred supplier to Ford.
